Do relationships work if one partner travels for work often?

55M here.... I'm noticing that many relationships and even marriages have partners that travel for their work may be gone 10 days at a time and come home for a few and then go back.. especially with new relationships how can one tell if it's going well or not because there's so much time to miss the other partner and embrace the time when they are together.... But do they really get to know the other person if they see them more frequently.... Hope this post makes sense what do you all think????
