Too soon?

Hi everyone, is it bad to apply for a permanent position at my new job after working in a temporary position for only a month?

So I got hired for a receptionist position at my state attorney’s office, and the reason why I took it is because I thought it would be a great way to get into the door and I’m currently 8 classes away from receiving my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and I’m not exactly sure how I want to use it so I thought that working here would give me an idea since there’s so many sections. I saw a paralegal position open and it’s entry level, I applied but my mom said it’s probably too soon for me to have applied and it might look like I was waiting for a job to be posted so I can move around. Is it too soon?
