Is extreme flash flooding the new normal?
I've lived in NC my entire life. Raised in the Piedmont and lived in the mountains 30 years. I don't recall such extreme non-hurricane related flash flooding like we've had this year.
With numerous 5-7-inch downbursts from the foothills to the upper Piedmont Crescent to down east, it seems prevalent.
I am wondering if anyone is familiar with research about this or know of anyone that's written scientifically about it? I assume it's emerging weather patterns mixed with overdevelopment/impervious surfaces, but was interested in the larger conversation.
