Seeking perspectives for my final-year university project - OTs working in mental health
Hi everyone,
I’m a 4th-year occupational therapy student from Australia. For context, I am not neurodiverse and I do not identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, but for my final-year project I am exploring how allied health services can better support neurodiverse LGBTQIA+ people in ways that are inclusive, affirming, and culturally safe.
A few questions I’m curious about if you're ok talking about it:
- Have you had specific training or education on working with neurodiverse LGBTQ+ populations?
- How confident do you feel supporting your clients with intersecting identities (e.g., autistic and queer, ADHD and trans, etc.)?
- What are some challenges you've encountered, and how have you addressed them?
- Are there any resources, frameworks, or approaches you’ve found particularly helpful?
- How do you ensure your practice is affirming, inclusive, and responsive to these clients’ unique needs?
You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you’d like. I will not share individual responses outside of my learning process without permission, and I’m happy to answer any questions about my project if that helps.
Thanks in advance!
