Why are we still getting new Spotlight variants?

We are many months remove from the Spotlight system, yet we are getting new Spotlight variants. Is this basically a new category of variants along with rare and super rare, without them announcing it. Are we going to get a new spotlight variant for each new card in perpetuity. If this is the case, can't they just make it with its own slot like ultimate variants. I understand it's just cosmetics, but it feels like pure greed.
