C1 referral and then downgrade question

My wife and I have recently started playing the credit card game, and I am handling both of our credit cards, she is not very much into this.

Well anyway, I had applied for a C1 Venture Rewards for her, whose AF will be posted in less than 3 weeks. I read in this subreddit that once AF is posted for C1, they don't take it off if you just downgrade the card. I have no intention of closing the account because there are a lot of miles on it.

My question is this - I was planning on her account to refer me for the same C1 Venture Rewards card. And then once I apply and get approved for the card for me (which I think I will be, because I did their pre-approval application), I am planning to downgrade her card to a VentureOne (to keep the miles). Do you know if I will be able to retain the referral miles on her account once I downgrade, or will I lose it?
