Questions before buying

With P5R included in this month's Humble Choice I've been tempted to finally give this game a go but I'm not quite sold yet despite being an avid JRPG fan. Having played the Demo's for both Metaphor and SMGTV I'm not the biggest fan of the push turn system (not sure why tbh) and neither really clicked with me so I'm unsure if P5R will.

Generally I prefer gameplay over story and especially hate slow story start prologues. Exploration is also a must but doesn't have to be a crazy amount. Good customization is also a humongous plus. How does P5R come up in these categories?

Some of my favorite games are Crystal Project, FF 5 though 7, Mario and Luigi SS, OT2, and Exp33 for reference. I understand Exp33 takes a lot of inspiration from this game so I feel like I should finally give it a go.
