Why screw over the people who really want to help you?

I’ve been through a horrible ordeal with my work contract in Oman, and it cost me loads of money and had a tremendous negative impact on my family. Yet, I hear of so many other skilled and enthusiastic expats who really want to do good for Oman but get screwed over and end up loathing their workplace. I’ve worked in several other GCC countries where this level of abuse does not take place. Why do Omanis do this over and over again? Do they not see the wrongdoing?
