Hi everyone! I don't know if you remember this trend of drawing different pokemon variations based on breeding, but I'm pretty obsessed with it. After getting into ROMhacks, I found myself wondering if this could be introduced as a mechanic in a fangame?

Personally, I LOVE breeding mechanics in games (the Dragon Warrior Monsters series for the GBA was my childhood obsession) but breeding in Pokemon is unfortunately pretty lackluster. I would love to make it more interesting, but not sure how easy it is to change breeding mechanics in a ROMhack.

First, I think it would be simpler to use egg groups for variations instead of specific pokemon. This would limit the number of offspring possibilities. For example, a Skitty is in both the Fairy and Field egg groups, so perhaps there would be a difference between a regular Skitty caught in the wild (base form), a purebred FairyxFairy Skitty, FieldxFairy, and FieldxField. Additionally, to make it more interesting, there could be a few individual pokemon that lead to a surprise unique variation when they are the father (especially for those Pokemon that are only in one egg group).

Would something like this be possible in a ROM hack, or is it too complicated? The new variations could possibly be coded as brand new Fakemon with different Pokedex entries. What do you all think?
