Question about EDs and social media influencers for those more educated in this area
I’m a doctor (gyn) and did not get much education on EDs during medical school/residency as I didn’t do much in the psych realm. I do see patients who happen to have EDs, but it’s not something I am trained to address, nor would I have time to.
I have a question for those more knowledgeable about EDs: do these influencers like Teegles and Bethany and Tamara actually *like* their emaciated bodies? I ask this because it often seems (especially for Teegles, I don’t look at much of the posts by the other two) that they intentionally show off their emaciation. Which goes against my most basic ED training which tends to say “people with EDs hate their bodies and often try to hide them under baggy clothing,” etc. etc. Yet these people seem to choose photos that highlight their starvation. I hope I’m not coming across as an asshole, and of course this is a very complicated and nuanced topic, I just can’t make sense of it and a cursory google about this has not been helpful.
Thanks x
