When do you wanna DP over using a normal anti-air?

is dp just the option to use when you really can't afford to make a trade? it seems like a lot of characters like sagat/blanka/kim can get big follow ups off an anti-air, so long as they do not use a special to anti air. or i guess when you aren't confident they aren't gonna do some air momentum trickery, dp is the safer option
