It is becoming nearly impossible to hire lower-end labor on long Island!
So, the business I work for, has me hiring people for a starting salary of $30k, going to a max of $40k once this person proves their reliability on the job after many years.
It is a 50-50 desk and labor job. GED-level education required. Be willing to be trained. Pass a drug test. That's all.
You won't believe how difficult it has become to fill this job!
And, I finally understand why.
The one person I managed to hire, takes the bus to work, and lives in an apartment. On Long Island! That's rare. That's a near-impossible find as far as I'm concerned, especially where we live. The other person has a car and has a husband who probably makes $200k+, and is only willing to work part time.
The problem is that housing has become so expensive, even in the lower-end neighborhoods, that $30k-$40k will no longer suffice. How is Long Island supposed to function without a blue collar lower-end workforce? We need these people to work these jobs! And, now that marriage has declined and people can't function in relationships, the idea of people teaming up to make $80k together to get a home is out of the question!
