Daily Gospel Reflection
Thursday of Week 18 of Ordinary Time Numbers 20:1-13 · Matthew 16:13-23
In our lives, it’s easy to feel the weight of leadership and responsibility, much like Moses who, tired and frustrated, struck the rock instead of speaking to it. His momentary lapse shows us that even our greatest leaders are human, susceptible to doubt and anger. Yet, the Gospel offers a powerful truth. Jesus asks, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter’s courageous answer, "You are the Messiah," becomes the rock upon which Christ builds His Church.
This is our hopeful paradox. We are called to be rocks of faith in our communities, anchoring ourselves in Christ. But just moments after his powerful confession, Peter is rebuked for thinking like a human, not like God. This is a profound lesson: true strength doesn't come from our perfect actions, but from our honest confession of Christ and our humble willingness to be corrected. Let us be a people who, in moments of doubt, speak to the rock of our faith and trust in the One who reframes our struggles into a story of grace and eternal life.
