What Kinds of Desk name plates do you use (2nd grade)

Teacher Support &/or Advice

Hi everyone! I’m going into my 3rd year of teaching (2nd grade) and I was considering changing up the kinds of desk name plates I use this year.

What I’ve done the last 2 years is print out the students names in bubble letters (with a nice border), have them decorate it on the first day of school, then laminate them for the year.

This year I’m considering switching to name plates that have the alphabet, colors, number line, etc for accessibility purposes.

Right now I’m on the fence about switching for a couple reasons:

  1. I really enjoy how the kids get to decorate their own nameplate with how I previously did it. I’m also not rly a fan of the premade nameplates aesthetics and they feel a bit too “kiddy” for 2nd graders

  2. The premade nameplates seem a bit overwhelming to the point where I feel like they won’t really get utilized by students who need them.

What has been your experience with desk tags. If you use the ones like I’ve shown, does it seem like it actually benefits students?
