I Blocked My Mean Girl Coworker
I am an elementary school teacher. She was my coworker for three years. She went to my wedding, was there for me through personal things, and someone who I considered a friend at one point.
It all changed when I started to brainstorm original ideas for activities for the students to do. Not trying to one up anyone, just genuinely enjoying my job.
I distanced myself from her too because she said a very vile comment about a coworker who went through something extremely personal. It was something along the lines of “she was looking for attention.”
I went out to eat with her and her husband and they started trash talking another friend who just left our planned dinner together. And I’m not talking about gossiping I mean just nasty talk of this person’s character. I was done after that. Her energy was horrendous and I needed to distance myself from that.
She began to ignore me, she gave me the cold shoulder, she refused to meet with our grade level we literally had to have the assistant principal force us to meet. She would stare at me in the lunch room. She even apparently dug around in my mailbox one time. She was obsessed. It was borderline insane.
She wanted confrontation, but I wasn’t going to give her the satisfaction. We would be hot and cold with her deciding to be friendly or not. I was always civil. When she accepted a new job in admin, I went to her going away party that was thrown by a handful of people. I bought her a card and all that, proving myself I was the bigger person.
I was relieved when she left. And honestly, I hadn’t thought about her in the past year. Yesterday I was on Facebook and her name popped up in people you may know. She unfriended me and my entire family.
She wanted it to upset me. But if anything, it gave me clarity that my workplace bully is GONE. I blocked her, knowing she would continue to Facebook stalk me (we were once friends so I know how she works). I advised my family to do the same if they wished, and they did.
In her warped mindset she will think me blocking her and her cruel husband will prove that she “won”. I’m just protecting my energy. It’s so nice and freeing!!! 😊
I don’t know if this even belongs here, I just needed to vent! I am clearly the villain in her story, which is something that used to bother me.
But one lesson I’ve learned is simple. Some people HATE happy and confident people.
