Was I wrong/insensitive?
Guy posted in the looking section looking for a raw bottom (he also had “raw is law” in his profile). Pics looked good, so I messaged him. We exchanged a few messages and the vibes were good, so I was down to meet. I checked his profile again while getting ready to go and there was no HIV status. The following is the exact series of relevant messages. For context, I’m on PrEP.
Me: I can get going in a few minutes. Just need to check something 🍑 🤣 [i go to the bathroom, start running water, and look at his profile for status] Me: What's your status? Him: Poz Me: Undetectable? Him: Yes but I don't usually deal with guys who don't understand the risk or lack their of. Me: If you were not undetectable, there would not be a lack of risk for the type of sex we'd prefer (raw), which is why I asked. Being undetectable is a non-issue. Him: deletes convo
I didn’t think my questions were insensitive. I thought they were neutral information seeking. If he’d said “undetectable” to start, we could have kept it moving. BUT, I do want to be aware of if I didn’t approach that well. I’m used to people having a status in their profile or having met someone offline and asked (or been asked) about status at the relevant time. Could/should I have approached this differently?
