Becoming the Beast Tamer
I spent a few days in the hospital. The Professor gave me some fast acting medicine that got me back to normal immediately, but I still remained there just in case.
Now out, I tried to get my life back to normal. It wasn't working. The experienced left me forever changed. Still, life continued, so I eventually went back to my job at the zoo.
I think it was the same day I escaped, that I managed to fully digest the Apothecary Potion. Not sure if it was out of pity or remorse, but the Professor supplied me the Formula and ingredients to advance to Sequence 8 Beast Tamer.
...
I lay there relaxing on my building's rooftop taking in the light of the moon. I always felt safe when moon was bright. Like it was protecting me from danger. A little foolish, I know. But I always had a connection to the night.
White hair, scrawny body, and a shy personality had left me with me with a pretty isolated life outside of my family. When I sat below the moon, it never bothered me if I was alone. I guess that's a part of my weirdness.
I let the hours pass by and when I felt the most relaxed and comfortable, I concocted the Sequence 8 Potion. As an Apothecary, I could do it with my eyes closed.
In no time I had it in hand. It was a caramel colored drink that smell musky in the cool crisp air.
As I held it, part of me wondered if it was truly necessary to advance any further. After all, Apothecary already cured my illness. Why risk falling into madness and turning into a monster?
Then, I remembered the helplessness I felt when Viktor Atwood experimented on me. I don't ever want to experience that again. If I keep advancing, not only will it protect me, it will also protect those I care for.
Deep down, there was also the part of me that craved the power. It craved the knowledge. It craved the potential.
With one last look at the moon, I drank the Potion.
...
Before I knew it, I was jumping from one rooftop to the next. My body never felt this powerful and agile. I could smell better than ever. I could see so much more in the darkness. I had the senses of an animal.
I could also hear them. The pigeons, the rats, the alley cats, and the mutts. It's like I could understand their vocalizations. I couldn't perceive them as words, regular animals don't speak. But I understood the emotions and intentions behind the noises they made.
I skipped the fence at the zoo I worked at. Walking down the familiar paths as if it was day. I passed by the lion exhibit. The golden eyes of the big cats were looking directly at me. I stepped closer and they stepped back. I could feel their fear.
I jumped the fence and entered the lion pit.
The lions approached me and turned belly up in submission and fear.
I am the Beast Tamer.
