1st Marathon - Peak MPW

Training plans

Hello to all my fellow runners & sickos!

Just was hoping to get some insight to folks who have been in a similar scenario as myself. I ran my first half last year (1:52 and some change) and decided I’m going to sign up for my first marathon this year.

I was just gifted a Runna subscription so I’m setting up my training plan (running 4-5 days per week), my peak MPW is 33.4 miles. Most other weeks fall between 20-30 MPW.

I had originally started the Hal Higdon Novice program and saw the peak MPW was 40, but that didn’t incorporate any tempo or intervals.

Where I’m at now, my mileage has been between 15-18 miles for the last month. With this being my first marathon, I’m just looking to finish (quicker the better but not my main goal) without blowing up.

For folks who’ve run their first marathon with a similar base and goal, is 33.4 MPW enough? Did you feel prepared with that kind of volume, or do you wish you had pushed higher? I’m trying to find the balance here.
