I paid rent to pg owner but he's claiming his worker ran away with the money

I recently got into a pg and there was a guy who showed me around and talked me through everything. Now when I asked him where should I pay the rent because I wanted to pay through upi. He gave me a number and asked me to pay there. Everything done, now two days later I get a guy who shows up into my room claiming that he never got the payment and the guy whom I paid the money (the number that he asked me to pay was his own number) ran away with it. After a lot of arguments, we settled on one thing that I should call the guy and demand the money back by saying that they are kicking me out of the Pg and I'll file an FIR against him if he doesn't give my money back. (Keep it mind that all this was the owner's talk and he just wanted me to tell this to the guy who ran away with the money to scare hum). I did what he said and the guy said he took the money because they didn't pay him his salary and then cut the call.

Now the owner said that he has some known police officers and he'll ask them to call and threaten him. I already told the owner that I don't want to get involved since it's nothing related to me. His worker ran away with his money and it's not my fault that he didn't know what was going on in his pg.

Now I'm worried how should I proceed next if the owner or the guy who ran off shows up suddenly again. I'm fairly new to this city (Ahmedabad) who just arrived few days back. Any advice on what could be done would be really helpful. Thanks
