I just finished watching Lake Mungo at the suggestion of u/RemoteDuck5271, i'd heard it was divisive but I was very surprised
SPOILERS FOR LAKE MUNGO OBVIOUSLY :3
I have watched it and I dont understand the mixed reception. That is one of the few horror films that really gave me a lot of chills and like I felt like I was watching a family - obvious spoilers for Lake Mungo to those reading - trying to cope with the loss of their daughter from what I was sure the neighbors who were abusing Ali, when she got their tape they drowned her hoping that would be the end and that the ghost stuff was a mixture of the son's composite fakes in order to confirm the dna of her body, but then, the revelations of her seeing her own corpse which was confirmed to have been her earlier in the film and then her tapes with Ray sounding as though she is describing the experience of - while not realizing that it is her future as a ghost - watching her mum leave the house and her family driving away after having sold the house to move on and the final shot with her in the background and just yea, that was so haunting and I think it will stay with me for a very long time for being both a tragic story that happens frequently in real life but then with this fascinating layer of "is it ghosts or not" and then it is and its done so well the documentary style and the performances for the most part didnt feel like actors at all which I cant think of higher praise in that sense either so yea a wildly impactful film for me and i'm going to copy this as its own thread because I want to hear other peoples thoughts on the film and why they did or didn't enjoy it. Thanks for the suggestion u/RemoteDuck5271 !!
