Is it normal that I don't know how to answer the Empathy and Alexithymia tests?

Diagnosis Journey

I'm currently going through the diagnosis process and had to fill out several tests at home, two of them being an Empathy Quotient test and an Alexithymia Quotient test.

I genuinely was so confused with many of the questions, because I couldn't figure out exactly how I feel. Since I couldn't come up with a situation that I could use as an example or point of reference to answer many questions, I was left very confused and exhausted.

For example in questions like:

  • I find it difficult to explain to others things that I understand easily, when they don’t understand it the first time.

  • I can pick up quickly if someone says one thing but means another.

  • I find it easy to put myself in somebody else’s shoes.

  • It is hard for me to see why some things upset people so much.

  • I am good at predicting how someone will feel.

  • Other people tell me I am good at understanding how they are feeling and what they are thinking.

  • Describing the feelings I have about other people is often difficult.

  • I can't identify feelings that I vaguely sense are going on inside of me.

  • I get in a muddle when I try to describe how I feel about an important event.

Is it normal to be so confused and indecisive!?

From experience I think that I rather have too much empathy, like to ponder about my emotions even if I'm not the best at expressing them overtly, cry a lot, do have emotional talks with close friends, and can pick up things in other's reactions like for example, if a friend didn't like my birthday gift.

But when trying to answer these closed question tests, I feel like I have no clue how I actually feel...
