Question about crafting a story inspired by another book.

Question

Hi so I'm new here. So I've been working on a story since last year about 2 friends falling in love with each other after reading one of my favorite books (On The Same Page) I've recently noticed that I drew a lot of inspiration for my main characters from the book. Character A has similar traits to Riley in the book. Both are more dominant in the bedroom, both are exploring their sexuality and both had shitty exes (though Character A was never cheated on, her exes were just dicks who didn't respect her boundaries.) But character A doesn't have the same backstory or personality. For starters, she has autism, she knew she was gay for ever (Riley only discovered it after she started sleeping with her best friend in the book) she gets overwhelmed easily and has known she had feelings for her best friend for 13 years. Character B (the best friend) is an Italian, she works in fashion and is more submissive. Gianna in the book is Italian (and finish too if I remember correctly) is more submissive and tends to orgasm quickly. But Character A is a billionaire and has her own fashion company (Gianna is an online influencer who created her own line of underwear) but that's pretty much where the similarities end. Sure both characters in my story and the book are worried that dating their friend will mess with their relationship, but in my story character B never told character A how she feels until now because she knew Character A has autism and isn't big on change (both characters were afraid of being rejected and making things awkward) Now my story has a much different plot. B takes A on a work trip to Italy and invites her to her party, where a bartender mistakes the two friends for a couple and it makes A wonder what it would be like if they were dating. Character B's other friend tells her it's obvious she's always had a thing for character A and then she starts questioning whether A has feelings for her. The idea isn't the same though I have used similar ideas but made them completely different. My question is, should I scrap the story and just start fresh with brand new characters, or am I worrying for nothing?

(Sorry for the long ass text I barely slept a wink last night)
