Cold Plate fridge soft start

I have a very old boat that has a cold plate fridge. It uses a 110v Tecumseh compressor to chill/freeze a Coldplate in the fridge. Once at temp it shuts off and is good for a day-ish.

I cannot run this fridge without the generator. Its initial amp draw is too much for my inverter. Once it starts my inverter could handle it.

I have been reading about "soft start" kits. It appears they will work for A/C compressors but not refrigeration compressors.

Are A/C and refrigeration that much different? Any thoughts on reducing initial Amp draw? I'm sort of looking at a 12v Danfoss compressor/plate kit to replace the existing. But would just like to run without the generator if I wanted.

Thanks for any input.
