Malware???

My grandpa’s Samsung galaxy S23 FE randomly started opening chrome by itself whenever connected to power (charging) with any USB-C cable it opens to ‘insurance’ sites and opens random YouTube videos (mostly those no good DIY ones) could it be malware? If so is there anyway to remove it besides factory reset? Or is that the only option? (He says he never clicks anything suspicious or fake looking when on Facebook or viewing his emails/text messages and there’s no suspicious looking apps I saw when I looked through it for him)
