So… you’ve opened a case, unboxed your first skin, or maybe just picked up a cool-looking M4A1-S from the Steam Market, and now you're wondering:

"Wait, what is float? Why are some AKs more expensive than others even though they look the same?"
Welcome to the world of CS2 skin trading — a strange but exciting place where pixels have value, and even the tiniest details can matter.

Don’t worry — everyone starts somewhere, and this post is here to help you get the basics down.

🧩 What is Skin Trading?
Skin trading is simply the exchange of cosmetic items - like weapon skins, gloves, and stickers - between players. It can happen:

Peer-to-peer (e.g. via Steam Trade Offers)

Through marketplaces (some official, some third-party - be cautious!)

Skins don’t affect gameplay. They’re purely visual. But their rarity, condition, and design can make them highly desirable.

📘 Mini Glossary for Newcomers
Here’s a rundown of terms you’ll hear all the time:

Skin - A cosmetic item applied to a weapon or character.

Float value - A number between 0.00 and 1.00 that shows how worn the skin is. Lower = cleaner.

Wear Level - Determined by float. There are 5 levels:

  • Factory New (0.00–0.07)
  • Minimal Wear (0.07–0.15)
  • Field-Tested (0.15–0.38)
  • Well-Worn (0.38–0.45)
  • Battle-Scarred (0.45–1.00)

Pattern Index – Each skin has a randomly generated pattern. Some are rare (e.g. Blue Gems).

StatTrak™ (ST) - Tracks your kills with that weapon. Usually more expensive.

Souvenir - Special skins dropped during major tournaments. Often come with stickers.

Sticker - Cosmetic decals you can place on skins. Some are ultra rare.

Craft - A skin with a curated sticker combo. Sometimes more valuable depending on placement/theme.

Overpay - When someone gives more value than they receive in a trade (often for rare or preferred patterns).

Downgrade/Upgrade - Trading for a cheaper (downgrade) or more expensive (upgrade) skin.

Buff Price - Refers to prices listed on a popular pricing reference site (you’ll hear “X% of buff” often).

🧠 Smart Tips for Beginners
Always check float and pattern before trading or buying.

Learn to spot scams - never give out info or click suspicious links.

Avoid rushing. Research the market before agreeing to trades.

Start small. Don’t jump into knife trades before understanding the basics.

It’s OK to ask questions! We’ve all been there.
