Can the effects of weed linger many days after my last smoke session?
I’ve been smoking for about five years, usually 1x / night before bed. I’ve had pretty bad anxiety attacks from too-big-of-a-bong-hit in the past but about two weeks ago, it was different I combined two different strains and it fucked me up. My thoughts became confused, and I had a strong sense that I was “going crazy.” The experience was frightening and, at its peak, felt like I might not be able to regain control of my thoughts. That was about two weeks ago and I have not smoked since.
A few days ago, I had a therapy session and I got heavily triggered. I found myself almost catatonic afterwards, and within an hour, I felt myself feeling exactly like I felt when I smoked but I was completely sober. That feeling was terrifying. Felt like I was detaching from reality.
I’m struggling with moments of derealization (feeling like the world around me isn’t real) and depersonalization (feeling detached from my own body or thoughts). I feel anxious about my mental state, almost like I’m still in that altered state of mind, even though the weed effects should have stopped long ago. Can they pop up again after a while has passed? I felt like I was losing my mind the other day (no psychosis, tho). Felt like I was getting lost in my own thoughts and I couldn’t pull myself out, like I was going crazy, like I was going to float away (let’s call it extreme dissociation maybe).
Thoughts? I have discussed this with my therapist and she’s not overly concerned but also suggested that I speak to a psychiatrist about if the effects weed can linger in the system that long.
