In the ancient past, antro kingdoms warred one with another. Then the Dragons came, forcing those kingdoms to unite in uneasy alliance to fight their new foes. But then, one day, after their strength was spent, a new threat emerged from the oceans. Eldritch abominations which devoured the soul and corrupted everything they touched. All seemed lost as they ravaged the lands and a massed army of dragons - more than anyone knew existed - approached the anthro capital. But they came not to destroy but to offer a peace against the encroaching darkness. The high king’s daughter was given to the king of the dragons, and with that became the progenitor of the Order of Draconic Chevaliers - the Dragon Riders.

A thousand years later, a few bastions of safety remain, but most of the world is covered in dark marshes and swamps filled with bandits, insane cultists who worship the creatures that brought the world to heel, packs of soulless abominations, and the very monsters themselves. Overland travel is nearly suicidally dangerous and the ever smaller number of dragon riders are stretched thin trying to patrol the few roads and protect the walled cities.

You are one of those dauntless few. But who are you? A brand new initiate undergoing training? An old hand with a strong connection to your mount? Someone who just completed training and is to be bound to a mount? Or someon whose mount has died and is to be reassigned to a dragon whose rider has died?
