temporary veneer discomfort and pain during procedure!

This was removed by a filter from the ask a dentist thread so I hope it will stick here:

I had veneers put on my two front teeth when I was 24, 35 years ago. They lasted until 8 years ago when the guns were receding and they just looked bad. I went to a new dentist who did the four front teeth to make them more equal (the veneers were to close a gap so these teeth were pretty large in comparison to their neighbors). A year ago one of them cracked and now I have moved again. My new dentist is replacing the two fronts and used a fancy camera to take the mold. I had a LOT of trouble with feeling pain during the procedure. I got a racing heart once years ago from the shot so I now ask for no epinephrine. This dentist is insisting I take epinephrine since it isn't "lasting" but it just isn't the not lasting, it is never numb enough.

I went back to get the first set of temps off (and they had turned blue under one) after four weeks only to find that the permanent veneers didn't fit right. They were too small and didn't fill the space. Also, the process hurt. I could feel all the pulling and tugging and even the air as I breathed in. And so many shots! I felt like I was annoying the dentist by not taking epinephrine. Should I take it? He says he will go slow and that it probably entered a blood vessel; but I don't want that to happen again.

So I had to have the temps redone. This set bothered me a lot at first so I went back and had them adjusted. My gums were very sore, especially behind the two front teeth. Now it has been three days since I had them adjusted, and one of them is still always at a dull throb, and the tooth feels weird to me. It's scaring me because I am afraid it's permanently damaged from all the abuse to the tooth and will never calm down. I am afraid the process to get the permanent veneers placed will be painful, and that the tooth will continue to throb and I'll need a root canal, which will mean the whole process has to happen again.

Is this normal? Do I have a bad new dentist or is it just what happens? Ultimately I had to do a regular mold with the veneers in it for them to be sent back to be fixed to fit better. I am so sorry that I started down this path, but here I am and I welcome any reassurance or advice. It is not that I am unhappy with the way that they look, generally quite the opposite, but it is the uncertainty of how long they will last and what happens if they don't that I hate.
