Do you think publicly sharing agent commissions in office meetings is motivating or discouraging?

Question for fellow agents: Do you think publicly sharing agent commissions in office meetings is motivating or discouraging?

I’m a newer agent, and my broker prints and passes out an Excel sheet every month at our office meetings showing how much commission each agent has made — both for the month and year-to-date. It includes everyone’s names and numbers.

On one hand, I get why she does it — it can be motivating to see what’s possible. But on the other hand, I often leave those meetings feeling discouraged. I see agents pulling in $40K+ a month or over $200K for the year, and while I want to celebrate them, it also stings because I’m not there yet. I don’t feel like I’m getting much help, and it just makes me feel behind.

Have any of you experienced this in your office? Do you think sharing commission numbers like this is helpful, or could it be harmful to team morale?

Would love to hear your thoughts — especially from those who remember what it felt like starting out.
