Why are new discoveries made by regular people so hard to get recognition for?

So I recently discovered a possible Geoglyph in the shape of a rabbit! I’m not an expert but with the associated artifacts it seems like a pretty clear possibility. The Gentlemen of Elvas wrote of a place they described as the lake of the rabbit I’m in an area of known mound building cultures. So I don’t understand why it seems so difficult to conceive that we stumbled on a truly significant archaeological site. And because it’s not common consensus I’m being told it’s impossible. Seems like there is a problem In how these discoveries are hidden and discredited by experts even with substantial evidence being found !
