New MRI write up says I don’t have this disease
Disclaimer - I did use AI to help write this because I’m pretty upset right now. But I’m hoping someone out there has advice on what I should do.
I was diagnosed with axial spondyloarthropy in 2013 due to moderate bone edema. It was bilateral but more on one side ( I can’t remember what side right now).
Since the beginning of 2025, I’ve had an increase in pain, mainly my right hip and lower back. I’ve been on Erelzi for I think 6 years. Before that I was on Humira.
I just had a new MRI done of my spine and SI joints, and the radiologist wrote that there are “no findings to suggest ankylosing spondylitis.”
The report mentions some borderline edema and mild degenerative changes, but says it all looks mechanical — not inflammatory.
Now I’m terrified that my rheumatologist is going to backtrack on my diagnosis, cut off treatment, or drop me altogether.
I’m HLA-B27 negative, and I know that makes everything harder when it comes to getting taken seriously with AxSpA. But I have a documented diagnosis from over a decade ago — and this report feels like it completely disregards that. I know biologics can suppress what shows up on MRI, so I’m trying not to panic, but I feel so gaslit and honestly really angry.
I just emailed my old rheumatologist who diagnosed me. He’s from another province. I’m hoping they get back to me.
Has anyone else experienced this — where a “normal” MRI later on made your care harder to access or made your doctor question your diagnosis? How did you handle it? Any advice on how to advocate for myself with my rheum?
