tried to establish residency but think i mess up, am i cooked?

sigh. so i am married and i used to live in nyc. I moved here for grad school and i got my NC DL (don't have a car so no vehicle registration) and have all my personal documents under my address in NC. but for tax purposes and my husbands personal situation, we filed married jointly under the shared place we had in nyc. my husband lives there, although we are no longer in a romantic relationship. am i so screwed now for my residency application? the one year mark would have been at the end of august. im scared that because of my marriage and tax filing i won't qualify as a resident and then won't get the in-state tuition. anyone who knows me knows that i plan on staying here after graduating from my masters program.
