How does HR evaluate SSA A–C placement if your degree is still pending but you have experience?
Hi all,
I recently received a conditional offer for a Staff Services Analyst (SSA) position, and I’m trying to understand how HR evaluates placement into Range A, B, or C.
The offer mentioned the salary range of $3,749–$6,093 (which I know corresponds to Ranges A–C). Here’s my situation:
- I attended a UC and have completed 190+ quarter units.
- My degree is currently pending due to two incomplete courses I had to delay finishing because of a personal family loss. I’ve submitted a diploma application, but the degree won’t be conferred until I complete those courses.
- I have approximately 3–4 years of work experience performing analytical, technical, clerical, and customer service duties, both in the private and public sectors (retail manager, school research lab data analyst, NGO researcher, and biotech data entry).
- The MQs say that academic education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis, which I believe would still put me at the Range B level, even without the degree in hand.
Does anyone have insight into how HR typically evaluates placement when a degree is pending but there’s a mix of high-unit education and qualifying work experience?
Thanks in advance!
