Introduction to the world of Dream and Lethe Record

Here’s a quick introduction to the franchise if anyone is interested!

The franchise originally started as a music franchise, posting historical songs based on Chinese historical figures in stunning character designs. They’re still releasing songs to this day, which is their largest draw. The official YouTube channel of Dream and Lethe Record has only recently started to post some of these songs in English subtitles, but many other YouTube channels have already posted all of them on YouTube.

There are millions of DREAM fans in China who don’t even play the game, but listen to their songs and anticipate new character designs. Of course, the game itself is pretty fun for those into type of game.

As the songs became popular, they began to create the game based around it. It’s a turn-based mobile game, just like Onmyoji, but every character is a Chinese historical figure, and is very storyline-driven, backed by historical accuracy. In China, this game consistently uses its game to promote Chinese history and culture, and even brings in historians, Chinese opera singers, and professionals to infuse the game with as much historical accuracy as possible. So if you’re into Chinese history and a chill game, this is the game.

For the gameplay, here is a pretty good walkthrough video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUyW6lYJF7E

NetEase has collaborated with VNG to release the game in English, Thai, and Vietnamese in Southeast Asia, but they’re accessible worldwide from my knowledge. New characters (called Heroes in the game) are released much earlier in China than worldwide. For example, Hua Mulan is about to be released in VNG version, while it has already been released years ago in China. However, I’m sure it’ll be caught up soon.
