New chrons diagnosis - IBD Specialist in Chicago
I (30F) just got diagnosed with chrons. The gi doc who did my colonoscopy (who is not a specialist in ibd) prescribed me mesalamine orally and enema. My understanding is that mesalamine isn’t the most effective for chrons. Has anyone had success with mesalamine after a chrons diagnosis?
I really want to find an IBD specialist because from what I understand, it’s super important to get it under control right away. I spoke to a friends who are doctors, one of which is starting his gi residency and the other of which is married to a Chronie, and they recommended University of Chicago (Dr. Dalal or Dr. Rubin) or Northwestern (Dr. Hanauer) for the IBD centers. I made an apportionment with Dr. Dalal at U of C for a few weeks from now. I couldn’t get into Dr. Hanauer until November. My friend in gi suggested Dr. Dalal because she works with a lot of female chronies, and i was planning on trying to get pregnant soon (obviously I have to put a pin in this for now).
So does anyone have experience with IBD doctors at Northwestern and U of Chicago? Should I just go to Dr. Dalal for now or wait to see Dr. Hanauer?
