My symptoms are ruining my life, my doc says it’s anxiety

TW: Medical

A couple of years ago I noticed some tingling in my face, fingers, and toes. Over the years, the feeling has come back, each time increasing in severity.

In May, the symptoms came back, and they are ruining my life. My entire right side is tingling (like it’s fallen asleep), I can’t walk properly, I’ve lost most my motor skills, I’ve lost a good 50% of my hearing in my right ear, the double vision is debilitating, and so is the fatigue. I keep getting random chest pains, and the latest “episode” left me doubled over in pain.

My speed at work has gone down, and a 4 hour shift feels excruciating at this point. I can’t go on runs, or go to the gym.

I went to the doctor, who told me to wait a month and come back. I couldn’t wait, went back after 2 weeks (when the double vision started), and got a referral for neurology.

The doctors think this is psychosomatic, and related to my history of anxiety. I hope the neurologist will run some tests to help instead of sending me away and telling me to manage my stress more.

I feel awful, and hopeless. I feel like my life is crumbling, and there’s nothing I can do. I don’t want to give a sick note to work, cause I cannot afford to lose my income, and this doesn’t seem to have an end date.

Going to the gym is the only thing bringing me happiness, and I’ve lost that. I can’t believe this is happening to me.

I don’t know what to tell the doctors to make them take me more seriously. It feels like the more I push, the more I feed into the narrative of “hypochondriac person with anxiety who needs to be talked down”.

I am really really really hoping for a change soon, I don’t know how to deal with this any longer :/
