ipod nano 2nd gen

trying to use my old ipod to listen to music but the ipod screen just keeps saying “Do not disconnect”. i’ve used apple devices and itunes to try to restore it but it STILL says to not disconnect it, and now the itunes store won’t even open on my laptop. it’s a whole mess and idk how to fix it. please help!
