Personal Reflection: How OutdoorOasis Changed My Perspective on Public Spaces

I used to see public spaces, like parks adn plazas, as just background noise – places I walked thru to get somewhere else. Recently, I stumbled upon a community project called OutdoorOasis, and it's completely shifted my view. It started with just a few volunteers transforming a neglected patch of land near the library into a small, vibrant garden with seating.

What realy struck me was how quickly this small change impacted the area. Suddenly, people were stopping to chat, read, or just enjoy the sunshine. I noticed elderly folks who seemed to have found a new meeting place, and kids were actually putting down their phones to explore the plants. It made me realize how vital these spaces are for community building and mental wellbeing.

Now, I see public spaces not as incidental areas, but as opportunities. I wonder how many other underutilized spots could be transformed into something similar, fostering connection and improving the quality of life for everyone. It really got me thinking about the importance of design and community involvement in shaping shared spaces. Has anyone else had a similar experiance with a local project?
