Hairstyles in Academia
Hey yall!
So I am starting a new job as a researcher at a university. It's the first job that I actually have to go into work regularly. I'm kinda new to the natural hair community as I have only been natural for almost 2 years.
I was wondering if you have any advice for hairstyles to wear to work that are simple to do on my own. Right now, I have in flat twists that I did myself, but I'm unsure if that kinda style would work. I don't mind wash and gos, but I do get single strand knots if I leave it in a while. I can't braid to the scalp unfortunately. I'm not opposed to getting weave, but I'm trying to manage mild traction alopecia before I get weave in.
For reference, I have type 4 hair and try to wash my hair weekly or biweekly, depending on my schedule. My hair in its natural state comes to my shoulders. I don't know if it's helpful, but I will be working at a university in the South, but my boss, well PI, is a Black woman.
Another thing that I want to add is that I suffer from executive dysfunction so hopefully styles that have relatively minimal upkeep. If that's not doable, I can try to make it work...hopefully. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏿
Thanks for any advice yall have! 🫰🏿
