How do you keep a dentist?

I've seen a dentist 2 times in probably over 5 or more years and it was someone who took emergencies. I had a very bad tooth that needed pulled, had it pulled, and then went back for a follow up and cleaning.

I was able to be honest with this dentist about my purging because I knew it was effecting the tooth and wanted to be sure I had the most effective care. When I told him (because it wasn't at first) he said "oohhhh, okay." And something about being able to help but needing to stop. While they pushed the importance it didn't feel super awkward. I originally chickened out of being honest but had my boyfriend for support.

I liked this dentist a lot, and they do "regular" practice. But I'm very scared of making a typical appointment and going back. They know the bad secret and I couldn't imagine seeing them in a more typical way. I can't shake the feeling that they'd just be super annoyed and frustrated with me. Maybe I shouldn't "work" on this part until I'm better at recovery.

I'm just not sure where to go from here. I guess this is a "rant" and a question.

Has anyone else felt similar? Does the dentist suck for anyone else? Should o get over it and just do this "normal" things?
