Annual subscription being “grandfathered in”?

I just called Chase to ask if I could renew my sapphire reserve early (my renewal date is 11/1) to avoid the extra fee for being a month off the cutoff, but they told me that I’ll still be charged the usual $550 because I’ve been grandfathered in and I won’t see the increased rate until 2026.

This was news to me, given what I thought I had read in the initial notice about the new fee. Has anyone else been told this/seen this written somewhere?
