Squad Registration 2025-26 - How much space do we have?

The transfer window runs for another three weeks, but with the start of the season only one week away(!) - and new contracts for the likes of Digne, McGinn, and Ramsey - I think the broad shape of our squad is clear. We’re still being linked to a handful of players, so I wanted to see how much space we have for additional player registration. The registration deadlines aren't until September, so nothing has to be decided yet, but it's presumably a factor in transfer decisions.

In the Premier League, we are allowed:

A. A maximum of 25 players born before 1st January 2004, with the following restrictions:

(i) Seventeen ‘free’ slots. Gauci, Bizot, Digne, Maatsen, Pau, Garcia, Onana, Kamara, Tielemans, McGinn, Bailey, Buendia, Iling-Junior, Guessand, Malen. PLUS TWO MORE.

(ii) Eight additional slots for 'homegrown' players. Martinez, Mings, Konsa, Cash, Barkley, Rogers, Ramsey, Watkins.

B. An unlimited number of players born on or after 1st January 2004. Bogarde, Jimoh-Aloba, Redmond, Rowe.

In the Europa League, we are allowed:

A. A maximum of 25 players born before 1st January 2004, with the following restrictions:

(i) Seventeen ‘free’ slots. Gauci, Bizot, Digne, Maatsen, Mings, Pau, Garcia, Onana, Barkley, Kamara, Tielemans, McGinn, Rogers, Bailey, Buendia, Guessand, Malen.

(ii) Four additional slots for association-trained players. Martinez, Watkins, Konsa, Cash.

(iii) Four additional slots for club-trained players. Ramsey.

B. An unlimited number of players born on or after 1st January 2004 who have been at the club two years or more. Bogarde, Jimoh-Aloba, Rowe.

The fact we can’t fill our club-trained quota means we effectively lose three spots, and I suspect Iling-Junior will miss out. Redmond also misses the cut as he hasn’t been here the required 2 years for List B. We wouldn’t have space for any additional signings unless they swapped for someone already on List A(i).

TL:DR

For the PL, we’re grand, and can currently register two more senior players, even if we retain everyone. For the UEL, we’re in a one-in, one-out situation with regard to squad registration, even with SIJ and Redmond excluded. Bringing in a new RCB will mean excluding a senior player from our current squad, or one of Bailey or Buendia moving on.
