Success

Story of how I got here:

Had undiagnosed ADHD and grew up with a narc single mother. Could not wait to get out of living under her, went into major debt doing it as living alone on a basic retail job salary was not cutting it and had to declare bankruptcy at the end.

Well worth the price for my mental sanity.

Recovered well, but met someone online and entered a LDR. We got to a point where I either had to find a way to fund myself going over there and live together for a year, gamble on us working out/marrying or end the relationship as it had no real end in sight otherwise.

Said screw it, credit score can always recover (Already did it once!) but a chance at a lifelong marriage doesn't come around often. Went back into debt, wasn't able to find a job in the other country, and defaulted on all my cards again.

Success, we got married! It is currently working out well and turning into the best relationship I could have hoped for over time. Once again, worth it.

Bankruptcy not an option this time around, but my debt was far lower this time, and there was now 2 of us. Got an alright paying job, fixed the car to a reliable level.

Notice was sent that Discover was attempting to sue me, settled it early before it ever got anywhere. Decided to start tackling everything one by one before anyone else tried. Wife and I worked together to get this over with as quick as possible. Best to not have any debt hanging over my head as she gets here and access to credit as a tool is going to help tremendously.

Over the course of the last 6 months, negotiated and paid off:

Debt HolderOriginal AmountSettled Amount
LVNV$395$150 (38% Paid)
Discover$1,989$1,192 (59% Paid)
Ally Bank$3,031$1,100 (36% Paid)
Portfolio Recovery Associates$3,445$2,085 (60% Paid)
Midland Credit Management$4,282$2,141 (50% Paid)

Already saving up together for the tax hit coming up should I end up not qualifying on insolvency.

It was negotiated by myself/solo. MCM and PRA took the longest to cut a deal with and required a good bit of patience/negotiation over the course of a few months with multiple (5-10) calls.

Going to have all the accounts closed from bankruptcy removed by the end of mid next year.

All Collections were pay for delete, none will be on my report within the next 30 days. (The bankruptcy stays, so I think I still remain on the same "level" sadly)

Bankruptcy completely falls off in 2030. The last charge off account also, conveniently, falls off in 2030.

Already have 3 credit cards in good standing. Combined limit of $6,500. No AF on any of them, 1.5% Cash back catch all + a 5% grocery/gas card. Feel like I am in the best position I could be, all things considering.

All statements being paid off in full each month.

Now to sit back and not find another reason to go over my financial limits for a 3rd time. Fingers crossed!

Good luck to everyone here :)
