Managing Curly Hair Through Surgery Recovery

Diagnosed Patient or Survivor Support

Any suggestions for preparing for my husband to have to deal with my longish curly hair when I'm recovering from a mastectomy and later a DIEP reconstruction? This is my second time with breast cancer; another primary occurrence since 10 years ago. At that time, I had a lumpectomy + radiation, and my husband had a hard time with helping me wash, comb out, and style my curly hair. Especially dealing with the tangles, even with my instructions and detangling conditioners in the shower and after. I'm afraid after my mastectomy, it's going to degrade into a big, tangled mess. I don't currently have a hair stylist here in Fort Wayne, but I'm thinking maybe get a trim? I'm not sure how much that will help; he'll still have to deal with the curl tangles. Maybe go once a week to a professional and have them wash it and style it? Other ideas?
