1994 Hiace Excessive Play in Wiper Spindle

I essentially have the exact same problem as outlined in the below post, I’m hoping the link works as I can’t cross post within the same community.

I am thinking of trying what one of the commenters mentioned, i.e. filling the void with some silicon and hoping this hardens enough to hold the spindle in place.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this or any other solutions, as to fix it properly is a pretty big job.
