Question: new lawn

Hi all,

Currently in the process of getting quotes from multiple gardeners. I’m wanting my 6yr old lawn ripped up, levelled and new turf put down. I had a gent come out a few days ago measures my lawn at 42square metres, said I’d need 10tonne of soil to add 100mm of top soil and new turf, quoted me £1,600.

Today, spoke with someone who is coming out on Monday. He said I have 2 options, he had me hooked. He said I can go down the 10 tonne of soil route which he seems to think is too much. Or he said a cost effective way would be to rip it up, use hardcover as a subbase to level out the garden and then put around 2-3 tonne of soil on top and then turf.

I’ve been onto YouTube and this method with the hardcore seems to only be for patios and artificial grass. I’m yet to come across someone who has used this method for real grass.

Do you guys have any thoughts?
