He texted me (again)

He broke up with me over the phone in April after 5 years together and 1.5 years long distance. We haven’t seen each other since. He texted me in July and said he was open to see each other to talk about our relationship (?), I agreed (lol), and then he ghosted me for three days and said next time he was home he’d give me more notice. Fast forward to this week. I wake up to a text from him saying he is coming back home to see his brother and nieces that are visiting from California. And that he is considering coming home at the end of August so there might be more space then to talk to me. He offers to meet me and doesn’t make concrete plans.

Like WHY bother at this point with reaching out to me? Why tell me you’re coming home to see other people?

Our relationship is clearly over. I don’t understand the breadcrumbs considering he made it clear that he doesn’t want a romantic relationship with me and I made it clear that I don’t want a friendship.

I never responded to his last couple texts and will continue no contact.

I just don’t understand why he’s still breadcrumbing me. Is it his guilt? Testing the waters? To see if I’ll beg? To maintain a sense of control?
