WIBTA if I confront my cousin?
Okay this is a very long story, with details spanning over several years so please bear with me. I will try to keep it as short as possible. Disclaimer, this all might sound so fucking dumb but I just want to make sure I’m not delusional.
I(23F) have a younger cousin (22F) whom I’d been sort of attached at the hip with for most of our lives. She’s always been there and we were close up until maybe 4 or 5 years ago. We kind of had a frenemies type of relationship. We are next door neighbors, we went to the same schools and our families are very close. We’re almost like siblings. Or at least we were, now I just say that but in reality I don’t really feel any love towards her. This is due to several small incidents over the years.
Ever since childhood, this cousin( we’ll call her Jacky) has pretty much always copied me. She bought the same clothes and jewelry that I did, she picked up my same hobbies (fashion designing is one that I remember distinctly), she liked the same singers and bands that I liked. She would even still my toys or trinkets. I had very long hair since I was child and Jacky’s copying me got to the point where she was so OBSESSED with having long her she would tie several pieces of fabric together to create “a wig” and would wear it all the time. She also always wanted to spend time with me but when our other cousins ( 2 girls, sisters. About our same age) visited, Jacky would keep me out of play dates, completely ignore me and just overall be very hostile towards me. She hated it when these two cousins visited my house to spend time with me or when I visited theirs. She would always crash our sleepovers which were a lot less reoccurring than theirs(which I never crashed) btw. This was all pretty frustrating to me as a child but my mom and older sister always told me she was just a child and it wasn’t a big deal and I tried to write it off as that.
As we grew closer older, these copying me tendencies continued. Our native language is not English but I became fluent from a young age thanks to my sister, Jacky wasn’t fluent. In the early 2010s (ages 12-15) when DIYing became really big, I used to watch a TON of YouTube videos of people DIYing. I just genuinely enjoyed the content and I COULD UNDERSTAND IT. My cousin discovered this, she couldn’t understand shit but still copied me. Her family is wealthier than mine, so she could easily afford craft supplies that I couldn’t afford. I desperately wanted to buy Sharpie pens (not available in our country), she knew that. So you want to know what she did? She got her cousin who was traveling abroad to get her a ridiculously big pack of sharpies that she just flaunted. I started making friendship bracelets, she did that too. Made a whole freaking business out of it. And suddenly she became the crafty, artsy one if the family. Her siblings and her made such a big deal out of it, just rubbing it in.
