Freebuds 4i vs 6i

Discussion

Hey there, I bought Huawei Freebuds 6i to "upgrade" (more like sidegrade) my Freebuds 4i.

The 4i's have been the most phenomenal sounding headphones I have heard, easily outclassing Airpods Pro 1 and 2, Literally anything from Soundcore, Samsung or Nothing.

I've enjoyed them for the past 5 years and I thought it was time to retire them due to the fact that the case battery has degraded significantly. And I mean like, SIGNIFICANTLY, like, 1 full charge of the buds drains the case almost completely.

I picked up a pair of 6i's and I must say I'm a little disappointed.

I tried burning in the 6i's but it was only a slight improvement.

When it comes to sound, while the 6i's are fuller, wider and have softer and deeper bass, the 4i's are around 20-30% louder, have much sharper and better treble and have more bass (even though I EQ'd the bass to -4 on the 4i's and +6 on the 6i's).

When it comes to ANC, the 6i's are way better, but I'm a little disappointed by the Awareness, the 4i's awareness was not good to begin with and the 6i's are just a slight improvement over the 4i's when it comes to awareness mode.

Battery life, while yes, the 6i's have more charges out of the case, they only get around 4h of playback compared to the almost 8 I get from the 4i's with maxed out volume and almost 13 hours at around 40-60% volume with ANC.

The 6i's are slightly more comfortable compared to the 4i's, but honestly, the 6i's aren't really worth the 80 EUR compared to 15-20 you can pick up a pair of 4i's with.

In my honest opinion, the Freebuds 6i are a sidegrade to the 4i's and the 4i's are still unmatched when it comes to sound quality out of non over ear headphones.
