My Estring nightmare! What was your experience like?
I decided to try an Estring estradiol vaginal ring because it was advertised as being an effective alternative to the messy estradiol cream. I was excited to try it so I paid $160 which was 30% non preferred coinsurance, and my insurance paid about $360. That seemed very expensive, but the information about the ring was promising.
However, for the next three months, the ring would randomly slip out after staying in place for days at a time. Things like bowel movements and exercise would easily displace the ring. From time to time, the placement of the ring would cause pinching pain in my cervix and I'm not sure why?
When I had my period the old blood would accumulate around the ring and cause odor and irritation. I would have to remove the ring daily during my period to wash the blood off. I also had to remove the ring for sex or else those kinds of fluids would also build up around the ring and cause odor. Breaking the suction of the ring to pull it out to wash it was quite uncomfortable. Reinserting it was annoying because sometimes it would take several tries before it was in place well enough to not slip back out.
Due to all of this, I starting getting reoccurent yeast infections and I had to do a few courses of fluconazole when the OTC antifungal creams were just not working.
I will never buy the Estring again and those three months of using it were a nightmare. What was your experience like?
